Buck Brannaman Quote

“Gentle in what you do….Firm in how you do it!!!”

Book: “The Faraway Horses” by Buck Brannaman

Tonight I was flipping through my book:  The Faraway Horses” by Buck Brannaman.  I ran across a few points that I would like to share with everyone.

Do people expect too much too soon?  Most certainly.  And a lot of times the people who expect too much too soon are the ones who are afraid.  They want the horse to come through, to get over all the things that he’s doing that frighten them without their putting in the time to help him.  They want him to become advanced as soon as possible–if not sooner.

On the other hand, people who have realistic expectations and enjoy working with a horse, allowing him to come along at his own pace, are the people who are confident.  These are the people who don’t work with horses to stroke their own egos.  They feel comfortable with the horse because they’re comfortable with where they are now.  And that helps them be comfortable with where they’re headed.

I found this very enlightening.  Tomorrow I will share his opinions on the so called “lazy horse.”  Happy reading!

Harry Whitney Quote…

Here is a great quote from Harry Whitney

“So often we focus on what the horse is doing and miss the fact that the horse’s

mind will affect what he does and how he does it. If we give attention to the

horse, how he is feeling in the moment, where his thought is and offer him the

help he is looking for, many of the things we thought were problems will be

cleared up.”

Buck Brannaman Quotes…

I found a few more great quotes from Buck Brannaman.  Costco has a magazine called “The Costco Connection.”  Buck is a member of Costco.  I found an article, in the magazine, regarding an interview by Mr. Steve Fisher with Buck.  I found some more words of wisdom that I want to pass along to everyone.

“Whether one was going to have a horse, or a dog, or a child, with that comes a great responsibility to raise them.”

“Horses don’t think the same as humans.”  Something that’s most unique about the horse, that I love, is not what he possesses but what he doesn’t possess.  And that is greed, spite, hate, jealousy, envy, prejudice.  The horse doesn’t possess any of those things.  If you think about people, the least desirable people to be around usually possess some or all of those things.  And the way God made the horse, he left that out.”

“By the time you’ve had a relationship with a horse for a while, there are characteristics in the way the horse behaves with you and around you and responds to you that are directly (related) to some of your traits as a human being…whether it’s insecurity or aggression or fear or hate.”

All quotes are from Buck Brannaman.  I hope you enjoy the words of wisdom!!  I felt the quotes were great and had great meaning.

Fear of Horses…

Here is a great quote regarding “fear of horses”…….

“Fear is the single most dangerous and destructive force in a relationship with a

horse.  Eradicate fear and you begin to develop trust.”

Author Cherry Hill in “What Every Horse Should Know”

Welcome

I would like to share my journey of mistakes/successes of learning how to communicate with a horse from his perspective. It has not only benefited me professionally but I have found it very helpful in my personal life as well. My dad suffered a massive stroke in June of 2005. He lost his ability to communicate. I lost my younger brother, Kent Snyder, June 26th 2008. I have been shocked as to how beneficial my knowledge of the horse, has aided in my care taking for my dad and brother. This is what I would like to share with you in hopes to not only help your horse relationship but to show you how the same knowledge can benefit other areas of your life. Vicki
